A car navigation system having a position correction function and a navigation method thereof are provided to improve accuracy of displayed car position by using estimated moving distance considering rapid acceleration and deceleration. A car navigation system having a position correction function includes a GPS(Global Positioning System) module(218), a first operation unit(235), a second operation unit(236), and a control unit(237). The GPS module receives position information on a moving object. The first operation unit calculates the current position based on the position information. The second operation unit corrects the current position with estimated movement distance calculated according to velocity information of the moving object for a delay time until displaying the calculated current position. The control unit provides route information for estimated position of the moving object. The control unit compares the current velocity with average velocity to determine rapid acceleration or deceleration of the moving object.
