An image display device having a time shift function and a control method thereof are provided to control on/off operations of the time shift function by sensing access and secession signals of an RFID tag inputted from the outside. An input signal processor(100) consists of: a tuner(100) which selects a broadcasting signal of a channel a user wants; a modulator(120) which corrects an error by modulating the broadcasting signal and converts the signal into a transport stream; a demultiplexer(130) which demultiplexes the transport stream from the modulator and divides the stream into audio stream, a video stream and an additional information stream. A signal processor(200) consists of: an audio and video decoder(210) which decodes the audio and video streams; an audio and video processor(220) which processes a signal to output the decoded audio video signal in audio and video formats. A signal output unit(300) consists of a speaker(310) and a display unit(320). An RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) module(600) senses access of an RFID tag(500) from the outside to record the tag ID, and manages access and secession of the RFID tag. A controller(800) controls on/off operations of a time shift function according to the access and secession signals of the RFID tag sensed through the RFID module, and controls reproduction of time-shifted data according to a re-access signal of the RFID tag. A storage(400) stores a corresponding broadcasting signal according to a control signal of the controller.
