PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching element driver capable of executing an appropriate protective operation not only to an excess current during complete ON but also to the excess current in the initial period of turn-on. SOLUTION: The switching element driver is provided with a transistor 24 for lowering the gate voltage of a power element 10 faster than the lowering speed of the gate voltage at the time of normal OFF so as not to turn off the power element 10 and a transistor 25 for lowering the gate voltage of the power element 10 slower than the lowering speed of the gate voltage at the time of the normal OFF, and lowers the gate voltage by the transistor 24 and then lowers the gate voltage by the transistor 25 in the case that the excess current is detected in the power element 10 by an excess current detection means 26. In the case that the gate voltage is a prescribed value or below by a gate voltage monitoring means 21, the gate voltage is lowered only by the transistor 25. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
