PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage to a heat source that heats a heat belt and to improve fixing performance, in a fixing device for an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The fixing device 22 has a heat member 24 that melts an unfixed toner image on a recording medium 36 by heat, thereby fixing the unfixed toner image to the recording medium 36, and a pressure member 26 that applies pressure to the recording medium 36 interposed between the pressure member 26 and the heat member 24. The heat member 24 is provided with: the endless heat belt 64 movable in a circumferential direction; a heat source member 70 disposed inside the heat belt 64 and emitting light to the internal circumferential face of the heat belt 64; and a light transmission member made of a transparent or translucent material and surrounding the heat source member 70. A nip part is formed between the heat belt 64 and the pressure member 26 by pressing the heat belt 64 against the surface of the pressure member 26 by means of a pad member 77.
