PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the display quality of a display device which provides subframe display and to lower the power consumption. SOLUTION: The display device which generates subframe data corresponding to a plurality of subframes obtained by dividing one frame from input data and displays the input data with the total of the respective subframe data includes: a back light which has a plurality of lighting areas, the quantities of light of the respective lighting areas being adjustable according to the input data; a back light control unit which determines the quantities of light of the lighting areas based upon input data of display areas corresponding to the respective lighting areas and adjusts the quantities of light of the lighting areas; and a subframe data generator which generates the subframe data based upon the determined quantities of light.
