<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording fault detecting apparatus which can precisely and speedily detect a recording fault by a simple constitution, and to provide its recording fault detecting method and a program, and an image recording apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: This recording fault detecting apparatus 1 detects the recording fault when a recording process has been performed on a recording medium by making an ink discharged from a nozzle based on image data. An illumination section 3 irradiates the surface of the recording medium after the recording process with an illumination beam. An imaging section 2 photographs the surface of the recording medium which is irradiated with the illumination beam through a lens, and outputs a detection image. A carrying section 2 carries the recording medium while maintaining a positional relationship in which the surface of the recording medium faces the imaging section 2. A recording fault judging section 6 judges the presence/absence of the generation of the recording fault based on the comparison result between the image data and the detection image. In this case, the illumination section 3 applies an illumination distribution which compensates unevenness in the radiance distribution in the detection image resulting from the shading characteristics of the lens onto the surface of the recording medium by the irradiation with the illumination beam. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
