PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning type image display device in which it is possible to ensure a favorable display quality by reliably synchronizing the horizontal scan and the vertical scan. SOLUTION: The scanning type image display device includes: a light source section (lasers 2R, 2G and 2B); a horizontal scanner (MEMS scanner 4); a vertical scanner (galvanoscanner 5); and a vertical scanner control section (control section 21) that controls the operation of the vertical scanner in such a manner that the scanning with the vertical scanner is temporarily stopped within a time range from the termination of the scanning with the horizontal scanner in a first frame to the input time of a horizontal scanning beginning signal corresponding to the vertical synchronization signal of a video signal in a second frame, and the scanning with the vertical scanner in synchronization with the input timing of the horizontal scanning beginning signal is restarted from an initial position.
