PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a variable directional capacitor microphone unit by which a variable directional capacitor microphone unit with high performance can be obtained inexpensively by obtaining bidirectivity with uniform front and rear low-frequency response characteristics, and the variable directional capacitor microphone unit. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the variable directional capacitor microphone unit is disclosed for manufacturing the variable directional capacitor microphone unit which has a pair of diaphragms 22 and 42, fixed electrodes 26 and 46 disposed on the diaphragms opposite to each other across a gap, back acoustic resistance materials 29 and 49 disposed opposite to the backs of the fixed electrodes in accordance with the fixed electrodes, and space formed between the back acoustic resistance materials, wherein the diaphragms 22 and 42 function as acoustic terminals and are formed with openings for pressure equivalence communicating with the space. Acoustic resistance is measured by measuring air resistance values for each of the diaphragms, and the diaphragms having proper acoustic resistance values are paired and incorporated in the microphone unit.
