PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain large engine output even at the time of extremely low speed operation of an internal combustion engine by certainly operating an engine valve even when the oil pressure of hydraulic oil acted on a slide pin is in a low oil pressure state, in a valve gear equipped with a valve rest mechanism. SOLUTION: The valve gear for the internal combustion engine is equipped with the valve rest mechanism 30 provided on a valve lifter 23 driven by a cam 21a. The valve rest mechanism 30 is equipped with the slide pin 32 moving a valve actuating position where valve driving force of the cam 21a transmitted to the valve lifter 23 is transmitted to the engine valve 8, and a valve rest position where the valve driving force transmitted to the valve lifer 23 is not transmitted to the engine valve 8; and a control spring 33 making resilient force against hydraulic driving force acted on the slide pin 32 act on the slide pin 32 on the basis of the oil pressure of the hydraulic oil of a hydraulic chamber 44. The slide pin 32 occupies a valve actuating position by the resilient force of the control spring 33, and occupies the valve rest position by the hydraulic driving force of the hydraulic oil.
