PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive low-magnetism/medium-strength stainless steel wire rod or steel wire for bolt having excellent trimming properties and cold forgeability, and to provide a bolt. SOLUTION: The inexpensive low-magnetism/medium-strength stainless steel wire rod or steel wire for bolt having excellent trimming properties and cold forgeability has a composition comprising, by mass,≤0.1% C,≤1.0% Si, 1.0 to 2.0% Mn, 0.03 to 0.045% P, 0.003 to 0.01% S, 8.0 to 9.0% Ni, 0.1 to 1.0% Cu, 18.0 to 19.0% Cr and≤0.1% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and satisfies Md30; -40 to 0°C, and a tensile strength of 500 to 600 N/mm2.
