PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which enables the efficient and complete removal of iron from iron-containing wastewater discharged from a factory, a mine or the like, especially from red water in which iron is present in a colloidal state, a suspended state or the like by precipitating the iron quickly as hydroxides. SOLUTION: In the solid-liquid separation of iron contained in wastewater, after adding 5-50 g of sodium sulfite (Na<SB>2</SB>SO<SB>3</SB>) to 1 m<SP>3</SP>of the wastewater, air is injected to carry out an oxidation neutralization method, and a normal coagulant such as a nonionic coagulant is added to solid-liquid separate the iron in the wastewater.
