PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multibeam generating element in which the light utility efficiency over the whole multibeam generating part is improved, the influence of the aberration of an optical system is minimized despite of many beams, and a high speed and high quality optical recording is achieved, and to provide an optical recording apparatus using the multibeam generating element. SOLUTION: The multibeam generating element has: a plurality of semiconductor lasers: a plurality of optical fibers which transmit the laser beams generated by the semiconductor lasers ; an optical fiber array which transmits the laser beams which have passed through the optical fibers; and an optical waveguide element which is provided with a plurality of waveguides which transmit the laser beams which have passed through the optical fiber array, wherein the waveguides have a core layer and a clad layer, the arrayed pitch of the waveguides is smaller at the output side from which the laser beams are emitted than that at the input side to which the laser beams are input, the width of the core layer is narrower in the transverse direction in which the waveguides are arranged than that in the vertical direction, and the difference in the refractive indices of the core layer and the clad layer is larger in the transverse direction side than that in the vertical direction side.
