<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, the cycle characteristics of which are improved. <P>SOLUTION: The anode 10 for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery has an active substance layer 12, containing particles 12a of an active substance. A metal material deposited electrolessly exists in between the particles 12a. At least part of the surface of the particles 12a is covered by a metal material 13, having a low capability of forming a lithium compound. Voids are formed between the particles 12a covered with the metal material 13.
