<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device with an optical sensor in which detection of illuminance by an optical sensor can be maintained at a desired sensitivity for a long period of time, and to provide an electronic apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The electro-optical device has an electro-optical substance held between an element substrate having a pixel electrode and a counter substrate having a counter electrode and disposed opposing to the element substrate, forming a display region, and is characterized in that: a polarizing plate is disposed on the counter substrate; the device is equipped with an optical sensor section for detecting illuminance of external light, which is fabricated at an end of a region where the display region is laid on the element substrate, a polarization section fabricated on the optical sensor section, a transparent electrode fabricated on the polarization section, and a selecting means for selecting a plurality of optical sensor elements in the optical sensor section and at least one element from the optical sensor elements as an optical sensor element to be used; and the optical sensor section can be shielded against light by electrically controlling the transparent electrode on the optical sensor section. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
