PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of improving moving picture fuzziness when displaying a moving picture in a hold-type display device as typified by TFT liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: Gradation data per a frame in an image signal is time divided into dark sub-frame gradation data with lessened gradation and bright sub-frame gradation data with enhanced gradation, the luminance lessened on a dark sub-frame is compensated on a bright sub-frame and, therefore, the usual integral luminance per a frame is set to be invariable. Sub-frame gradation data from a memory 200 is made to be output gradation data composed of the dark sub-frame gradation data with lessened gradation and the bright sub-frame gradation data with enhanced gradation by arithmetical operation on an arithmetical operation part 204 by using an arithmetical operation parameter from a register 202.
