PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gasification furnace having high thermal efficiency and more compact structure. SOLUTION: The gasification furnace A has a cylindrical reaction furnace 1, a feed-drying furnace 2 installed above the reaction furnace 1 so as to be separated by an interval passage 10 at a prescribed distance, a firegrate 12 installed in the lower end part of the reaction furnace 1, and a lower end chamber 3 arranged below the reaction furnace 1. The gasification furnace A can be applied to both of an up-draft method and a down-draft method because the air can be fed from both directions of the upper end and the lower end of the reaction furnace 1. The amount of the generated tar can be reduced by a ring-shaped protrusion 11 present along the circumferential direction of the inside surface of the reaction furnace 1 and protruded to the inside of the reaction furnace 1, and a combustible gas having high calorie can be formed.
