PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new imide oligomer having high heat resistance and being hardly volatilized even when the imide oligomer is heated singly or in the state of a mixture with a polyamic acid, a polyimide, an organic solvent or the like; and to provide a method for producing the imide oligomer. SOLUTION: The imide oligomer is represented by general formula (1). For example, oxydiphthalic dianhydride and pyromellitic dianhydride as a tetracarboxylic acid, maleic anhydride and nadic anhydride as a dicarboxylic acid, and 1,3-bis(3-aminophenoxy)benzene or the like as a diamine are used as starting materials for the production.
