PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rationally provide a tail code for each car, to reduce an area for the tail code occupying around the car to irreducible minimum and to secure a space for arranging hoistway equipment and driving equipment. SOLUTION: A plurality of cars 11a, 11b, 11c are independently and liftably provided in one hoistway. Respective tail codes 13a, 13b, 13c are provided along a car side surface with a predetermined clearance between them in a space between respective cars 11a, 11b, 11c and a lift hoistway 16. The respective tail codes 13a, 13b, 13c are provided so that the tail code 13a for the car 11a at a highest position is arranged at an inner-most side and the lower the position of the cars 11b, 11c is arranged at the more outside the tail codes for the cars are provided when seen from above.
