PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the detection accuracy of motions between images in the case that the luminance of the images is relatively low or the like. SOLUTION: In the motion detection apparatus for detecting the motion between different evaluation images on the basis of a plurality of cumulative correlation values calculated between the different evaluation images by a representative point matching method, the minimum cumulative correlation value or the cumulative correlation values equal to or smaller than a value for which the minimum cumulative correlation value is increased according to a prescribed rule are specified as candidate correlation values from the plurality of cumulative correlation values. Then, in the case that there are the plurality of candidate correlation values, the average value of the candidate correlation value and the cumulative correlation value in vicinity is calculated for each candidate correlation value, the position of the candidate correlation value corresponding to the minimum average value is detected as a matching position, and the motion between the different evaluation images is detected.
