PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an echo canceller which is capable of enhancing the capability to remove an echo signal even when using a reproducing means having a strong nonlinearity and is capable of improving the quality of a speech transmission signal, a method thereof, a program thereof, and a recording medium therefor. SOLUTION: In the echo canceller, a speech reception signal is converted into a reproduced signal and is emitted as a voice by a reproducing means, and echo signals from a speaker 4 are removed from voice reception signals consisting of speaker's voice reception signals from a main microphone 61 and the echo signals to output a speech transmission signal. Voice reception signals including the speaker's voice reception signals much are collected from the echo signals by the main microphone 61, and voice reception signals including the echo signals much are collected from the speaker's voice reception signals by sub-microphones 6m (m=1, ...M), and a first false echo signal is generated from the speech reception signal, and voice reception signals from sub-microphones 6m are inputted to generate a second false echo signal, and the first and second false echo signals are subtracted from the voice reception signals collected by the main microphone 61, and filter coefficients of first and second variable filters are updated.
