PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallic material having an outermost surface layer composed of a thick and stable nickel fluoride film having excellent corrosion resistance, and to provide a method for producing a metallic material by which the nickel fluoride film can be formed at a lower temperature. SOLUTION: The metallic material can be produced by forming a nickel-tungsten alloy plating film or a nickel-molybdenum alloy plating film on the surface of a base material composed of a base material whose surface is made of a metal, and next, reacting the film with a fluoride gas.
