PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing benzylidene glycerol, by which the benzylidene glycerol which has an acetal group between the 1- and 3-hydroxy groups among the three hydroxy groups of the glycerol can preferentially be produced to lower the production cost. SOLUTION: This method for producing the benzylidene glycerol is characterized by acetalizing benzaldehyde with glycerol in the presence of an acid catalyst in an alkyl halide solvent (acetalization process) and then isolating cis-1,3-O-benzylidene glycerol from the reaction product obtained in the acetalization process by a recrystallization method (purification process).
