PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer having an extremely economical and highly reliable paper cutting mechanism surely preventing various troubles caused by a movable blade. SOLUTION: This printer 1 with the paper cutting mechanism 35 is provided with the movable blade 45 for cutting paper sheets RP, a detecting device capable of detecting the presence/absence of the movable blade in a waiting position, and a control device controlling the operation of the movable blade based on the detection result of the detecting device. After the detecting device detects that the movable blade 454 reaches the waiting position, the control device 47 allows the detecting device to detect it again after a prescribed time and, when detecting that the movable blade is not positioned in the waiting position, controls to return the movable blade 45 to the waiting position.
