PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of identifying cellular genes necessary for viral growth, cellular genes that function as tumor suppressors, nucleic acids related to viral infection or cancer, methods of reducing or preventing such viral infection or cancer, methods of producing substantially virus-free cell cultures and methods for screening for additional such genes.

SOLUTION: Disclosed is an isolated nucleic acid containing a nucleotide sequence comprising a plurality of specific sequences, or an allele mutant or homolog thereof.
