<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas cleaning filter having excellent bond between its partition wall and plug members, and a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing an exhaust gas cleaning filter comprising a honeycomb preparation step, a masking step, a pretreatment step, a plug material disposition step and a calcination step, and an exhaust gas cleaning filter prepared by the method are disclosed. In the honeycomb preparation step, a ceramic honeycomb structure 4 comprised of an outer circumferential wall 41, partition walls 42 disposed in a honeycomb shape, and a plurality of cells 3 passing through both end faces 43, 44 of the ceramic honeycomb structure 4 is prepared. In the masking step, a masking member is disposed so as to cover the openings of honeycomb cell end faces excluding openings 325 which are kept open and to be later plugged. In the pretreatment step, both end faces 43, 44 of the ceramic honeycomb structure 4 are dipped in an aqueous solution 6 of a binder and are subsequently dried. In the plug material disposition step, a plug material is disposed in the ceramic honeycomb structure 4.
