PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display device capable of performing scroll of long distance at high speed with simple operation. SOLUTION: The map display device comprises: a map data storage section 2 storing map data; an input section 1 for inputting an instruction; a tracking object selection means 32 selecting, according to the instruction from the input section, the tracking object on a map; a scroll direction detection means 33 detecting the scroll direction instructed by the input section; a map data extraction means 34 successively extracting, from the map data read from the map data storage section, the map data containing the route of the tracking object selected by the tracking object selection means and in the scroll direction detected by the scroll direction detection means; a scroll control means 35 successively selecting the map data so that the scroll is carried out along the route of the tracking object indicated by the extracted map data; and display section 4 displaying the map on the basis of the map data successively selected by the scroll control means.
