Steering system for road vehicle has spaces inside steering housing filled with packing inserts

A steering system for a road vehicle, especially an electromechanical type has a split housing (3a, 3b) with one of more packing inserts (11) to take up spaces inside the housing. The inserts are of a hydrophobic material, e.g. flexible plastic and are clipped into position, or are plastic molded to one of the housing components. The design is applicable to rack and pinion or belt drive steering systems.
