PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely remove particulate matter or wet soot remaining in the cooler in an intake and exhaust passage. SOLUTION: An electric supercharger 18 supercharging intake air in an intake passage is provided. An exhaust cleaning system 34 cleaning burnt gas discharged form an exhaust passage 30 is provided. A diesel engine is provided with a means for forming cleaning passages PH in the intake passage 10 and exhaust passage 30 so as to flow gas from the EGR coolers 52, 62 into the exhaust cleaning system 34, and for performing cleaning operation to drive the electric supercharger 18 for a predetermined time, when the engine is stopped. The PM or WS attached to the EGR coolers are blown off by the cleaning operation and is trapped in the exhaust cleaning system 34 through the cleaning passage PH. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
