PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus capable of efficiently applying a coating material while reducing the quantity of the coating material to be used and easily applying the coating material even on a base material having an uneven shape in the application of the coating material on the back surface end part of the base material. SOLUTION: The coating apparatus is equipped with a first transportation means 2 provided with a transporting surface 4 for transporting the base material 1 to one direction, a second transportation means 3 arranged in the forward side of the first transportation means 2 in the transporting direction of the base material 1 and provided with a transporting surface 5 for transporting the base material 1 to one direction tilted upward to the transporting direction of the base material 1 by the first transportation means 2 and a coating material spray means 6 for spraying the coating material 7 upward. The arrangement position of the coating material spray means 6 is in the forward side of the termination of the transporting surface 5 of the first transportation means 2 in the transporting direction and is positioned below the base material 1 in a state that the front end side of the base material 1 is arranged on the transporting surface 5 in the second transportation means 3 and the rear end side of the base material 1 is arranged on the transporting surface 4 in the first transportation means 2.
