PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner capable of precisely fixing a sheet-like member on a predetermined position of a beam detection means and capable of improving assembling operability for assembling the beam detection means and the sheet-like member to a housing, and to provide an image forming apparatus provided with the optical scanner. SOLUTION: A light shielding sheet 310 is joined and retained to a beam detection sensor 301 by disposing joint parts 313a to 313d as retaining means on four sides of the light shielding sheet 310 as the sheet-like member. Therein, screws 350 are inserted into positioning holes 310a, b of the light shielding sheet 310 before the light shielding sheet 310 is held and fixed by the housing 250 and the beam detection sensor 301 and, then, the light shielding sheet 310 is positioned with respect to the beam detection sensor 301.
