PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mark up the abnormal part of a rope with direct spraying of paint from a paint spray device on the basis of an abnormal part detecting signal from a rope abnormality detector for an elevator. SOLUTION: This rope marking device of the elevator has the rope abnormality detector 6 detecting the abnormal part caused by a partial breakage of a strand of copper wire composing a rope 4 towing a car 3, an abnormal part detecting signal receiving means receiving the abnormal part detecting signal from the rope abnormality detector 6, the paint spray device 7 marking up the abnormal part of the rope 4 by spraying paint thereto, and a paint spray control means controlling paint spray by the paint spray device 7 by receiving the abnormal part detecting signal from the abnormal part detecting signal receiving means.
