The present invention relates to a spiral drill, having a shaft (10) and a cutting section (1) defined by the axial length of the chip flutes (2), wherein the cutting section is coated at least partially. In order to create a spiral drill having the above-mentioned characteristics, and a method for the production thereof, having very good properties with regard to durability and chip formation, or chip transport, on one hand, but also being suited for reworking, including coating, on the other hand, the invention proposes that the cutting section (1) substantially has a first coating across the usable length thereof, wherein a second coating that is different from the first is provided only in the region of the tip (3) of the drill, and extends across an axial length corresponding at a maximum to two times the nominal diameter of the drill (100). |
