Vitrectomy device comprising a body (32) extended by a cannula (36). The cannula has a closed-off distal end (36a); it comprises a window (38) in its lateral wall close to said distal end. It accommodates a needle (40) which is moved with a reciprocating movement and which can periodically close off said window. The device additionally comprises suction means connected to th e needle, and a double-acting actuator (44) provided with a movable piston ( 50) to control the movement of said needle. In said device, the needle is mo ved with a translational reciprocating movement in said cannula; said piston of the double-acting actuator is directly secured to said needle; hence, it s movements allow the needle to be brought into a first position in which sa id needle closes off said window, and a second position in which the needle leaves said window open. This device allows a very precise control of the op ening and closing times of the end of the cannula.
