720,019. Feeding sheets. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY, Ltd. Dec. 3, 1952 [Sept. 3, 1951], No. 20744/51. Class 100 (1). In a side-registering device, such as that described in Specification 501,364, wherein the sheets are gripped and moved laterally up to a positioning stop by means operated by a flexible coupling such as a Bowden wire, a sheet guide plate is provided which is supported independently of the device and is adjustable relatively to the sheets being fed to the printing machine. As shown, the side lay is similar to that described in Specification 619,813, an operating shaft 7 being connected to a Bowden wire 24 the other end of which carries a member actuated by a cam on the printing machine. Outward movement, i.e. to the left, of the shaft 7 allows a roller 18, under the action of a spring 21, to drop on to and grip a sheet on a support plate 26 attached to an extension 27 (not shown) of a reciprocating carriage 12. This carriage is moved by continued movement of the shaft 7, and the sheet is thus moved transversely. The carriage 12 and other parts are returned by a spring 11. The side lay is carried by a two-part clamping member 1 secured to a rod 3 by a thumb-screw 2. Sheet-guides.-Each sheet is guided as it is fed between the roller 18 and plate 26 by a curved plate 29 pivoted at 30 to a bracket 31 extending from a two-part clamping member 32 secured by a thumb-screw 32a to the rod 3. The plate 29 is urged upwardly against the end of an adjustment screw 33 by means of a spring 34. |
