PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation device for an elevator in case of an earthquake capable of protecting elevator equipment from the roll of a rope caused by the earthquake by operating a main rope swing prevention device in advance when receiving earthquake information in real time. SOLUTION: This operation device for the elevator in case of an earthquake is provided with the main rope 5 suspending a car 2 and a counterweight 3, a hoisting machine 4 around which the main rope is wound to elevate, lower, and drive the car and the counterweight, a real time earthquake information receiving means 7 for receiving earthquake information in real time, the main rope swing prevention device 8 installed in a shaft, arranged to prevent the obstruction of the running of the elevator at a usual running time, and operating as required to prevent the main rope from rolling, and a control part for stopping the car at a predetermined position set in advance when receiving earthquake prediction information by the real time earthquake information receiving means and operating the main rope swing prevention device to move it to a position for suppressing its rolling.
