PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer recording device which can suppress the force required for winding an ink ribbon to the minimum while enabling the miniaturization of the device body, the reduction of power consumption and the reduction of ink-ribbon damage. SOLUTION: The thermal transfer recording device is equipped with a winding motor for diving a winding bobbin 10 in order to wind an ink ribbon 2 from a feeding bobbin 11 to the winding bobbin and a torque limiter for limiting a drive torque transmitted to the feeding bobbin from the winding motor. When a recording movement is not performed, the movement for conveying a recording material P to the same direction as of the ink ribbon is performed in the state of driving the winding motor in the direction of winding the ink ribbon.
