The bird protection device (1) comprises a transparent material, which has optically effective structures (3). The optically effective structures have an increased absorption opposite the transparent material of electromagnetic radiation in wavelength coverage outside for human visible range. A metal ion made from aluminum, titanium, vanadium, chromium, manganese, ferrous, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, zirconium, molybdenum, silver or tin is aligned in ranges of the optically effective structures in a layer against other areas of the transparent material. An independent claim is also included for a method for production of a bird protection device, which involves diffusing metal ions in a surface of a transparent material, particularly of metal ions selected from aluminum, titanium, vanadium, chromium, manganese, ferrous, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, zirconium, molybdenum, silver or tin.
