PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress speed change hunting in a regular range by appropriately calculating a feed-forward instruction value upon speed change of a belt type continuously variable transmission. SOLUTION: On calculating a feed forward output flow rate Q<SB>FF</SB>(a speed change instruction signal S<SB>T</SB>), based on a target sheave position variation quantity dXt, when an absolute value of the target sheave position variation quantity dXt is small, a gain K for adjusting the feed-forward output flow rate Q<SB>FF</SB>is set by a gain setting means 158 so as to be smaller than the rate when the absolute value is large. Hence, when the absolute value of the target sheave position variation quantity dXt is small, speed change hunting is suppressed as the feed-forward output flow rate Q<SB>FF</SB>is limited compared to when it is large. Thus, in a regular setting range in which the target sheave position variation quantity dXt is small, it is possible to suppress the speed change hunting in the regular range in which especially a target sheave position Xt does not change.
