PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner for use in on-board radar device, capable of checking an abnormality in a scanning lens before the application of a laser beam from the device and stopping the system, if an abnormality is recognized, and improved in effect on the deterioration of emission-luminance, the service life, the consumption current and the like. SOLUTION: A light beam caused by current is emitted from LD28. The direction of the light beam is changed by a scanning lens 40. The position of the scanning lens 40 is detected by PSDs 25a and 25b. The scanning lens 40 is moved by an actuator member 21. An abnormality of the actuator member 21 is detected by CPU 20, at least based on information on the position of the scanning lens 40 moved by the actuator member 21 and detected by PSD 25a and PSD 25b.
