IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an image forming apparatus from being damaged by accurately detecting conveying failure in a fixing unit even when toner is distributed to the end part of transfer material.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with: a transferring means for transferring a toner image formed on a photoreceptor to the transfer material; a fixing means for conveying the transfer material by holding the material between a heating member heated by a heating body and a pressurizing member and fixing the toner image to the transfer material; a first transfer material detecting means installed in a position on an upstream side of a fixing point of the fixing means; and a second transfer material detecting means which is installed in a position on a downstream side of a fixing nip part and detects that the transfer material is passing through the fixing nip part of the fixing means. An engine control part 206 detects conveying failure of the transfer material according to the detected result by the first and the second transfer material detecting means, detects conveying failure of the transfer material and varies the timing for detecting the conveying failure of the transfer material according to toner distribution to the transfer material to be fixed using the fixing means.
