<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a phase difference between a plurality of photoreceptor drums can be accurately adjusted. <P>SOLUTION: On the basis of a detection time taken from the time when a pattern image detection means detects a predetermined reference pattern image to the time when it detects the reference pattern moved away by an amount corresponding to the circumference of a transfer drive roller, a phase adjusting means for adjusting a phase difference of a speed change between the adjacent photoreceptor drums 2 calculates the phase difference of a speed change between the adjacent photoreceptor drums 2. On the basis of the calculated phase difference, the phase adjusting means adjusts the phase difference of the speed change between the adjacent photoreceptor drums 2.
