<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer reduced in memory sizes of firmware and a main memory. <P>SOLUTION: A firmware memory 14 in the printer stores printing firmware 51 for performing a printing operation. The printing firmware 51 consists of a plurality of fragmentedly compressed fragment compression firmware 61 to 69. The firmware memory 14 stores identification firmware 52 and decompression firmware 53. A device driver sends to the printer an identification number of the fragment compression firmware 60 to 69, which is necessary for printing. The printer identifies the fragment compression firmware 61 to 69 represented by the identification number received from the device driver by using the identification firmware 52, and decompresses the fragment compression firmware 61 to 69 by using the decompression firmware 53, and develops them in the main memory. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
