PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging optical system including a prism in which the deterioration of definition of a picked-up image is suppressed without impairing characteristics of a thin film formed on the reflection surface, and to provide an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: In the imaging optical system at least including the prism 150 and a lens system which are arranged in this order from the object side toward the image surface side, the prism 150 is provided with a reflection surface which reflects light made incident, a thin film which is formed on the reflection surface and is composed of one layer and a metal film 155 formed on the thin film, wherein a film thickness of the thin film satisfies a conditional expression: p/10≤(np(λ)/nA(λ))×d(λ)×β≤p.
