PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reduction in performance caused by fixing the number of sectors to be rewritten. SOLUTION: In a magnetic disk device 100, a rewrite discriminating part 185 obtains a servo signal including off-track amount corresponding to each servo frame from a position information memory 183, and discriminates whether write fault is caused or not based on the obtained servo signal. Then, when write fault is caused, the rewrite discrimination part 185 discriminates the number of sectors to be rewritten, a write control part 187 controls a hard disk controller 170 and executes rewrite corresponding according to the number of sectors discriminated by the rewrite discrimination part 185.
