PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrooptical element which has a large angle of deflection and suppresses divergence of light. SOLUTION: The electrooptical element, as an embodiment of the present invention, which uses an electrooptical material is characterized in that the electrooptical material is KTa<SB>1-x</SB>Nb<SB>x</SB>O<SB>3</SB>(0<x<1) and the electrooptical element has a first set of transparent electrodes for applying an electric field parallel to a traveling direction of light and a second set of electrodes for applying an electric field at right angles to the traveling direction of the light.
