PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat insulating material with high ventilation performance capable of easily removing moisture and expanded air in an exterior wall. SOLUTION: The heat insulating material 1 comprises: a plurality of vertically-elongated front vertical grooves 3 with predetermined depths which are formed in parallel at predetermined intervals on the front surface A of a heat insulating material body 2; a plurality of vertically-elongated rear vertical grooves 4 with predetermined depths which are formed in parallel at predetermined intervals on the rear surface B of the heat insulating material body 2; and one or a plurality of horizontally-elongated horizontal grooves 5 which are formed on the front surface of the heat insulating material body 2 so as to make the front vertical grooves 3 communicate with one another, so as to make the rear vertical grooves 4 communicate with one another, and so as to make the front vertical grooves 3 and the rear vertical grooves 4 communicate with one another, and which are formed deeply enough to reach the rear vertical grooves 4.
