PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fabric processed for cleaning, which makes it possible to efficiently scraping and removing processing residues such as grinding particle pieces, grinding dust, and slurry, remaining on the surfaces of substrates for magnetic recording medium formed by texture process and highly accurately micronized and a method for cleaning the surfaces of substrates for magnetic recording medium, which comprises steps using the fabric. SOLUTION: The fabric processed for cleaning of the present invention is characterized by comprising a nonwoven fabric composed of entangled microfibers which keep a number average diameter of monofibers ranging from 1 to 400 nm, and the weight percentage of such monofibers with a diameter ranging from 1 to 400 nm is 60% or more with respect to the total microfiber and/or entangled microfiber bundles. The method for cleaning the surfaces of substrates for magnetic recording medium of the present invention is characterized by impregnating the fabric processed for cleaning with water and/or an aqueous solution of an organic acid based detergent, causing the fabric to come into contact with the surfaces of substrates for magnetic recording medium for cleaning the surfaces.
