Welding together two components with small flanges comprises feeding the components at an angle into a welding tool comprising a heating zone in which the flanges are pressed together and at least partially melted and a cooling zone in which the flanges are welded together in the manner of a zip fastener. An independent claim is also included for apparatus for welding together two components with small flanges, comprising a welding tool (1) in the form of a zip slider having a housing (2) with an entry zone (14), a heating zone (16) and an exit zone (15) with cooling channels (27); a wedge-shaped spacer (21) over which the components enter the entry zone at an angle; and welding electrodes (17, 18) in the heating zone.
