<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data carrier which can change an authentication method which can access each security area according to a command sent from a reader/writer device by setting up at least three or more security areas in a memory area which is arranged to the data carrier. <P>SOLUTION: An area which stores a command for performing authentication between reader/writer devices is divided into at least three areas. In the above three areas, a first command for authentication is stored in a first area, a second command for authentication is stored in a second area, and a third command for authentication is stored in a third area.
