PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera which shifts to the power saving mode at exact timing. SOLUTION: A CPU 32 determines whether a subject image has had a motion, based on a digital image information acquired through a CCD 14, and shifts the camera to the power saving mode for reducing the power consumption when it determines that the subject image has had no motion for given time periods. If overall brightness of the subject image shown with the digital image information is equal to or bellow the predetermined level, a given time shorter than other cases is used.
